Marlene Hoffer has always been interested in gardening. Growing up, her family always had a large vegetable, flower and fruit gardens. Marlene taught middle school for 25 years, concentrating on science with a Master’s degree in outdoor education.  She would take her students outside the classroom to teach about nature by using their sensory skills.  This carried over to science, writing, math and just about any study, if adapted properly-even the arts! In 2006 Marlene became a Florida Master Gardener. To fulfill her volunteer hours, she works in the demo garden, leads walks for “Parks that teach”, and many other volunteer programs in the County. She was instrumental in establishing the “Nature Park” in PGI at Aqui Esta and Bal Harbor and was successful in securing start-up funds from Re/Max Harbor Realty and the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association. Since 2015,  Marlene has been working at the Peace River Botanical Garden as a garden volunteer, guide, and as Secretary of the Board of Directors.
